GREGORY SOTO SENT TO ORIOLES
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Gregory Soto from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitchers Seth Johnson and Moises Chace.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
With Danny Coulombe on the 60-day IL, the Orioles were in need of a second left-hander out of the bullpen. Soto will provide just that. While a little wild at times, he has good stuff and ranks in the 96th percentile for fastball velocity and 87th percentile in whiff rate. He will add another dynamic arm to a Baltimore team looking to be the last one standing at season's end.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia already had many left-handers ahead of Soto on the depth chart: Jose Alvarado, Matt Strahm and the recently acquired Tanner Banks. With that being the case, they turned Soto into two younger pitchers. Johnson is closer to MLB, registering a 2.62 ERA with 61 strikeouts at Double-A. Chace has been pitching in Single-A, posting a 3.46 ERA (13.2 K/9).
Fantasy impact
Soto will not get many high-leverage opportunities in Baltimore, leaving him with little value in fantasy baseball going forward. Johnson and Chace will be in the minor leagues for the foreseeable future, so they offer little in fantasy leagues at this time.
