YANKEES GET MORE BULLPEN HELP
The New York Yankees acquired pitchers Enyel De Los Santos and Thomas Balboni Jr. from the San Diego Padres for outfielder Brandon Lockridge.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees continue to upgrade their bullpen, adding a reliable reliever in De Los Santos. The right-hander is having a slight down year in terms of ERA (4.46) and WHIP (1.29), but he has a good track record of consistency in middle relief. He should take on a similar role in the Bronx. In addition, they got a pitching prospect from the Padres in Balboni Jr.. He is 24 years old but is finding success this season in low Single-A ball.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres dealt De Los Santos after acquiring several better relief pitchers ahead of the trade deadline. Here, they brought in a speedy outfielder. Lockridge is already 27 years old and has yet to make his MLB debut, but he has been a prolific base thief in the minor leagues. His speed and defense could be of use to the Padres at some point in the near future. If not, he will continue to be valuable minor-league depth.
Fantasy impact
Not much should change for De Los Santos as he heads to New York. Expect him to continue in middle relief, picking up holds every now and then. He will not have a lot of value in most fantasy formats. The other players in the trade are unlikely to appear in MLB anytime soon.
