JOSE SIRI FOR ERIC ORZE

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Eric Orze.

What does it give the New York Mets
Siri provides the Mets with much-needed outfield depth heading into the 2025 season. Power, speed and defense are his strengths, but they come with poor on-base ability and many strikeouts. Siri should challenge for an everyday job in New York's outfield this spring, though he may have to settle for a platoon role. Either way, he is a versatile and useful pickup for the Mets.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Orze gives the Rays another depth option in the bullpen. In the minor leagues, the 27-year-old right-hander has limited hits and racked up strikeouts, but walks have always been a problem. He also struggled in his only two MLB appearances in 2024 (four earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched). Orze should get another chance to prove himself as an MLB reliever this season, but he could end up working in the minors again.

Fantasy impact
Siri should get a boost from joining the Mets. His home runs and steals are always of interest in fantasy leagues, and a fresh start could lead to improvement in batting average, OBP and strikeouts. Unless it is a deeper format, wait and see how he starts the season. On the other hand, Orze is unlikely to have much fantasy relevance unless he develops into a high-leverage reliever in coming seasons.
