GARRETT CROCHET GOES TO BOSTON!
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox for catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth and pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Crochet will be the new ace in Boston's starting rotation. The 25-year-old left-hander emerged as one of the top starting pitchers in baseball last season. It was just his first MLB season working as a starter, but he made a dominant 32 starts, finishing with a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts in 146 innings. He will look to build on that success now in the AL East. The Red Sox did pay a high price in terms of prospects, but adding Crochet signals they are serious about winning now.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The White Sox continue to rebuild, letting go of one of their few star players in Crochet. They do get a nice haul of prospects, headlined by Teel, one of the top catching prospects in baseball. He was the 14th-overall pick in the 2023 draft. Montgomery, meanwhile, went 12th overall in 2024. He will bolster Chicago's prospect pool in the outfield, as will Meidroth in the infield. As for Gonzalez, he has worked as a starting pitcher in the Minor Leagues. They will all look to take next steps in the White Sox's organization this season.
Fantasy impact
Expectations for Crochet will be high this season. He should have every opportunity to exceed 2024's performance, especially if he pitches without an innings limit in Boston. Draft him with confidence. Of the new White Sox prospects, Teel and Meidroth are more likely to make their MLB debuts this season. Wait and see for now, as they are unlikely to make a big impact in fantasy leagues as rookies.
