RED SOX ADD CATCHER FROM YANKEES
The Boston Red Sox acquired catcher Carlos Narvaez from the New York Yankees for pitcher Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international bonus pool money.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Narvaez will provide the Red Sox with much-needed catching depth heading into the 2025 season. The 26-year-old earned his first MLB call up last season, managing three hits in 13 at-bats. He is noted for his defense behind the plate, though he has also posted respectable numbers as a hitter in the minors. He should challenge for the backup job behind Connor Wong in spring training.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees have quite a bit of catching depth. They had five catchers on their 40-man roster before trading Narvaez, so they made this deal for a pitching prospect instead. Rodriguez-Cruz, 21, is a right-handed starter. He has pitched well in the minors and will look to move above high Single-A ball this season. The Yankees also added some international bonus pool money in the trade.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here. Narvaez is unlikely to see many at-bats if he makes the MLB roster this season. Rodriguez-Cruz is still early in his development and is not on the fantasy radar.
