MICKEY GASPER GOES TO MINNESOTA
The Minnesota Twins acquired catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper from the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Jovani Moran.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
Gasper offers the Twins some infield depth and versatility. He catches and can play multiple infield positions, which he did for the Red Sox during a brief call-up last season. Though Gasper went hitless in his first MLB action (18 AB), he has hit for average in the minor leagues and gets on base effectively. He should challenge for a bench role with the Twins in spring training.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Moran provides the Red Sox with bullpen depth. The left-hander missed the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He will continue working his way back in Boston's organization, where he could eventually earn another look on the MLB roster. Moran has managed a 4.15 ERA in 79 career MLB innings, so the Red Sox must think he still has some potential.
Fantasy impact
If Gasper earns a call up and replicates his offensive success from the minors, he could generate some interest in very deep leagues. But both Gasper and Moran are likely to spend much of the season in the minor leagues, keeping them off the fantasy radar.
