PIRATES PICK UP BRETT DE GEUS
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Brett de Geus from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
In de Geus, the Pirates pick up a depth right-handed relief pitcher. He has not had much success against MLB hitters, managing an ugly 7.48 ERA in 61.1 career innings pitched. Perhaps Pittsburgh's organization can get him back on track, but de Geus is likely to spend much of the 2025 season in the minor leagues.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays claimed de Geus off waivers last season, and he did not impress in his only two appearances with the club. He was a long shot to make their opening-day roster in 2025, so Toronto designated him for assignment after upgrading their bullpen in free agency. They were able to get some cash in return from the Pirates.
