VAZQUEZ BACK IN THE BRONX

The New York Yankees acquired pitchers Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan from the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Melky Cabrera and pitchers Mike Dunn and Arodys Vizcaino.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees have a knack for landing great players, and they've done it again here with Vazquez. As one of the Majors' elite strikeout pitchers, he'll fit in well with CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett at the top of New York's rotation. Logan is a short reliever who may be in the mix if he can get a handle on his solid heat.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves are losing a lot of talent in this deal by letting Vazquez go, but obviously the key for them is getting Vazquez's $11.5 million salary off the books. While Cabrera will probably get a minor raise, the Braves can use all those extra millions to add some offensive talent (which is greatly needed). Cabrera is solid but not a star, and may himself be part of more dealing. Meanwhile, lefty reliever Dunn is ready to play in the majors and has good strikeout potential, and righty Vizcaino is several years away but has a live arm.
