QUINTERO TO THE ROYALS

The Kansas City Royals acquired catcher Humberto Quintero and outfielder Jason Bourgeois from the Houston Astros for pitcher Kevin Chapman and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals were desperate for catching help due to the injury to projected starter Salvador Perez. Therefore, instead of looking at free agents such as Ivan Rodriguez, the club decided to add Quintero. He will be a serviceable option behind the plate and likely share time with Brayan Pena until Perez is able to return to action. Kansas City also added a quality fourth outfielder in Jason Bourgeois, who spent a lot of time as a regular in Houston last year.

What does it give the Houston Astros
Chapman is a big lefty reliever with a good arm and plenty of strikeout ability. He needs to harness his pitches better and develop greater control, but he is a promising acquisition for the future of the Astros. They'll also get a second prospect in this deal for a catcher they didn't need any longer (with Jason Castro and Chris Snyder in tow) and an outfielder they felt was expendable. This deal works for both teams.
