The Colorado Rockies acquired pitcher Joe Beimel from the Washington Nationals for pitchers Ryan Mattheus and Robinson Fabian.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Beimel is a solid and versatile lefty arm who is also very durable, and while the Rox aren't exactly pushing for a playoff spot they're still in the Wild Card hunt. Beimel will give their 'pen a boost, and that could be a big factor for them if this team starts surging down the stretch.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
Shedding Beimel's contract saves the Nats a little money, while Mattheus has a live arm and brings added depth to the Nats' future bullpen. Fabian is struggling at low-A ball and needs to both bulk up and show more if he wants to continue to be on the prospect radar.
