TWINS ACQUIRE CAPPS
The Twins acquired pitcher Matt Capps from the Washington Nationals for catcher Wilson Ramos and pitcher Joe Testa.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins decided to upgrade the closer role, where Jon Rauch did a solid job replacing the injured Joe Nathan up to this point. Enter Capps, who isn't as dominant as Rauch but is more consistent and experienced in the closer role. It's his first time in the AL, though, so Capps could need some adjustment time in Minnesota.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
In Ramos, the Nationals appear to have acquired their catcher of the future. They currently have veteran Pudge Rodriguez as the starter, so Ramos could be slated to take over next year. This move also could mean that 2010 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Harper will convert from catcher to outfielder. Testa is a lefty reliever with modest upside.
