GUZMAN HEADS TO TEXAS

The Texas Rangers acquired infielder Cristian Guzman from the Washington Nationals for pitchers Tanner Roark and Ryan Tatusko.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers were looking for middle-infield depth for the short term, so Guzman should help them. He'll play second base until Ian Kinsler returns from the disabled list, and then back up both Kinsler and shortstop Elvis Andrus the rest of the way.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals essentially were looking to dump Guzman's contract, so they were successful in so doing. Right-handed pitching prospects Roark and Tatusko are marginal, at best. Shortstop Ian Desmond and second baseman Adam Kennedy will now play every day.
