ANGELS GET FRIERI FROM SAN DIEGO

The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Ernesto Frieri from the San Diego Padres for infielder Alexi Amarista and pitcher Donnie Roach.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels bullpen has struggled so far this season, and they've even switched closers (from Jordan Walden to Scott Downs) in the early going. Frieri will add late-inning depth and could become a regular eighth-inning option (or better). He was off to a very good start with the Padres and, at 26 years old, has good upside.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
Amarista is a good young player who has plenty of versatility. The 23-year-old could be a long-term option at second base for a San Diego that may not keep veteran Orlando Hudson around all season. As for Roach, he has decent upside as a reliever but isn't ready for the big leagues yet. This is a good deal for both clubs.
