BEDARD TO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Erik Bedard from the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Adam Jones and pitchers George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kameron Mickolio.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The deal that took what felt like an eternity to complete has finally been processed. In Bedard, the M's acquire a perfect left-handed complement to phenom Felix Hernandez. Bedard will probably move to the front of Seattle's rotation, ahead of Hernandez and veterans Jarrod Washburn, Miguel Batista and Carlos Silva. His addition now makes Seattle the favorite to win the AL West in 2008.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Jones is a great prospect who should immediately win the center field job with the O's. Sherrill is a quality setup man who should get an opportunity to close with Baltimore. Tillman, Butler and Mickolio are all pitching prospects with a chance to work their way to Baltimore sooner or later. The O's would have probably been better off with Bedard for the long haul, but at least they received a nice return--led by budding star Jones.
