PADRES ACQUIRE TEJADA
The San Diego Padres acquired third baseman Miguel Tejada and cash from the Baltimore Orioles for Wynn Pelzer
What does it give the San Diego Padres
Another team in the thick of things, the Padres add necessary punch and depth to their batting lineup focused almost too much around All-star Adrian Gonzalez. They also inject some versatility to their infield, since Tejada will surely see time at both third base and shortstop, most especially against lefties. The Padres feel that the former AL MVP still has some gas left in the tank. The Pads are also stoked that, while they liked Pelzer, they didn't have to deal either of their two top pitching prospects: Simon Castro and Cory Luebke.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
A 24-year-old righty, Pelzer is enjoying a solid season in San Antonio (AA). He has a strong arm, but needs to now start making his way up an organization's depth chart in more convincing fashion.
