ORIOLES PICK UP FORMER PROSPECT PEARCE

The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce from the New York Yankees for cash.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Veteran bench bat Bill Hall didn't pan out so Baltimore has moved on here to Pearce. It's a solid move, as Pearce is a former top prospect who's having a great season so far in the minors. He can play either first base or the outfield, and if Pearce can show better plate discipline in the majors than he has in the past, he might be a steal. He may be able to fill in at either corner outfield spot right away (something the O's need with {P Nick Markakis} and {P Nolan Reimold} injured).

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yanks don't really have a spot for Pearce right now (even at DH) so they 'sold high' on a journeyman player having a strong start in the minors. New York is so stacked offensively it's hard to see this as at all risky for them, especially considering Pearce's age.
