PINEIRO LANDS IN ST. LOUIS

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired pitcher Joel Pineiro and cash from the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Sean Danielson.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
Desperate for help in the rotation and really not in postseason contention, the Cards could very well use Pineiro, who the Red Sox have used in the bullpen, as a starter. The beleaguered righty had some success early in his career as a starter in Seattle and over the past few years the Cardinals have been known for getting the most out of their starters (this year excepted).

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
After a disappointing stint in the 'pen, Pineiro had been designated for assignment. This is just the Sox's way of getting something for a player for whom they no longer had any use. They won't get much more than a low-level prospect.
