RICHARDSON FOR MILLER
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Andrew Miller from the Florida Marlins for pitcher Dustin Richardson.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Miller was once a top starting prospect, but he's now carrying around the 'bust' label. Can he resurrect his career in Beantown? Maybe. He'll either provide some more starting depth in 2011, or be converted to a permanent relief role. He's a good gamble for Red Sox GM Theo Epstein at this time.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Richardson is probably a better candidate to pitch in the big leagues as a reliever in 2011, so the Marlins are taking a small step towards fixing their bullpen woes here. That said, Miller has the bigger upside among lefties here. Florida may have given up on the 25-year-old Miller too quickly.
