SWISHER HEADS TO YANKS

The New York Yankees acquired outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher and reliever Kanekoa Texeira from the Chicago White Sox for infielder Wilson Betemit and pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Swisher is expected to take over at first base, since the Yankees decided against picking up the contract option on Jason Giambi's contract. Swisher, a switch-hitter, can also play any outfield position in a pinch. Texeira adds another potential arm for the bullpen.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Betemit has been a valuable utility man in the big leagues, but has also had the potential to be more. In Chicago, he could battle Josh Fields for the third-base job, get a shot at playing shortstop or second base full time or revert back to a utility role. Marquez and Nunez are decent pitching prospects that should add depth down the road.
