BOSOX MOVE YOUK TO CHISOX

The Chicago White Sox acquired infielder Kevin Youkilis and cash from the Boston Red Sox for infielder Brent Lillibridge and pitcher Zach Stewart.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
This is a great deal for Chicago. Not only do they get a three-time All-Star in Youkilis, but they fill a major position of need at third (where light-hitting {P Brent Morel} is injured). Moreover, the Red Sox are paying a big chunk of the $7 million left on Youkilis' contract for this season, and Chicago has a fairly inexpensive buyout for next year if he doesn't pan out. Youkilis struggled with a back injury earlier this season but seems to be fine now, and is hitting again. Look for him to bat near the middle of the Chicago lineup everyday, and get back to near-stellar production.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox don't get enough here for a player of Youkilis' stellar ability, but they didn't have much leverage. His lack of usual production, his big contract, and the ongoing negative publicity surrounding his part-time status meant it was all but inevitable he would be moved. This means talented young {P Will Middlebrooks} now gets to play every day, and the addition of the underrated Lillibridge helps with depth and baserunning. Stewart (who can relieve or start) hasn't found much success in the majors yet but may see a chance or two down the stretch.
