TIGERS ACQUIRE FARNSWORTH

The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Kyle Farnsworth from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Roberto Novoa, infielder Scott Moore and outfielder Bo Flowers.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
By acquiring Farnsworth, the Tigers have given new closer Troy Percival the veteran setup man he and the team were sorely missing. He's got a blazing fastball that can reach 100 mph, but hasn't had much luck with any secondary pitches throughout his career, so his success has been limited. He's working on a slider and if the Tigers can help him refine it, he can be very useful.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have stocked their system with a little more youth in this deal. Novoa, a big, 25-year-old righty, could potentially help the Cubs out of spring training. He showed solid stuff in a couple of rookie stints out of the Tigers' bullpen last year and has had success as both a reliever and starter in the minors. Both Moore and Flowers are very young players who will, for now, add a little depth to the Cubs' minor-league system. Moore is a 21-year-old left-handed-hitting third baseman, an aggressive hitter with some power. Flowers, also 21, is an outfielder whose best asset is his fleet feet.
