RED SOX LAND ANOTHER LEFTY

The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Mike Remlinger and cash from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Olivo Astacio.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The champs have improved their bullpen depth here by acquiring a second left-handed reliever. Mike Myers is good against left-handed hitters, but Remlinger is more versatile and can be used against right-handed hitters as well. But, at 39, he's getting up there and actually had trouble against left-handers with the Cubs this year.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Astacio, at 21, is a minor right-handed prospect, still in the low minors. He has a long way to go before having a chance to make any impact with the Cubs.
