WALKER WALKS TO SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Padres acquired infielder Todd Walker from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Jose Ceda.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
Though Walker has been a second baseman for most of his career, it appears the Padres landed him with the notion of trying him out at third base, where they're desperate for a steady bat. And Walker has just that, with a little pop and excellent discipline at the plate. If he can handle the defensive switch, it's a good, creative move for the Pads considering the lack of third basemen on the market at the deadline.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have plenty of infield depth, so they didn't need Walker to play on an everyday basis. So in return they got a very long-term prospect in Ceda. Still way down in the minors at 19, he's got some good size and some nasty stuff, but has a lot of development to do.
