INDIANS ACQUIRE FUKUDOME

The Cleveland Indians acquired outfielder Kosuke Fukudome and cash from the Chicago Cubs for outfielder Abner Abreu and pitcher Carlton Smith.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Tribe need help in the outfield right now, since both Shin-Soo Choo and Grady Sizemore are on the disabled list. Fukudome is an on-base machine, so look for him to see time near the top of the Indians batting order. When Sizemore and Choo return, Fukudome may wind up in left field.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are going nowhere this season, so dumping veterans is a good idea at this time. With Fukudome out of the picture, Tyler Colvin should finally get the playing time he needs in Chicago. Look for him to settle in as the everyday right-fielder soon. Of the two prospects acquired, Abreu has most of the upside.
