METS ADD BULLPEN DEPTH WITH MOTA
The New York Mets acquired pitcher Guillermo Mota from the Cleveland Indians for cash.
What does it give the New York Mets
A hard-throwing right-hander, Guillermo Mota will help give the Mets some much-needed depth in their bullpen as they head into the postseason. However, there is no guarantee that Mota will be the answer that the Mets are looking for. The 33-year-old struggled with the Indians this season, going 1-3 with a 6.21 ERA in 34 appearances. Furthermore, he has not pitched since July 24 and was designated for assignment by the Tribe on August 11. That being said, Mota is only two years removed from posting a 2.14 ERA in 52 appearances with the Marlins in 2004.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Despite his acquisition as a key reliever in the Coco Crisp trade during the offseason, Guillermo Mota never panned out in Cleveland and was relegated to spot duty over his last few weeks with the club before being designated for assignment on August 11. The Tribe will receive a prospect of their choice from the Mets, to be picked before September 29.
