TRIBE, TIGERS SWAP

The Detroit Tigers acquired Jhonny Peralta from the Cleveland Indians for Giovanni Soto.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
The Tigers feel like they still have a chance at the AL Central crown and in order to take a run needed to add some offensive punch from the infield. Most especially since veteran third baseman Brandon Inge has been out with a broken bone in his left hand. Peralta has displayed ample power before, and he can get white-hot for long stretches. He may also return to his original shortstop position if the Tigers need him there once Inge is healthy.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians weren't willing to pick up Peralta's $7-million option for next year and felt it was time to stop waiting for him to finally reach the potential star status once bestowed on him. For the moment, Andy Marte seems like a good bet to see a lot of at-bats in Peralta's place, as will Jayson Nix, and possibly Jared Goedert, who has been swinging a hot bat against Triple-A pitching for the past couple of months. For his part, Soto, 19, brings sound potential to the organization along with his southpaw arm.
