KEARNS TO YANKEES

The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Austin Kearns from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees are expected to load up the roster for the stretch drive, and Kearns is just one piece to the puzzle. He hits left-handed pitching well, so look for Kearns to start some games in left field versus tough southpaws. Brett Gardner would move to center field and Curtis Granderson may land on the bench when Kearns plays. Otherwise, Kearns will provide a veteran bat off the bench.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians used Kearns as their everyday left-fielder for much of the 2010 campaign, especially after center-fielder Grady Sizemore was lost for the rest of the season due to injury. With Kearns gone, the Tribe may use Shelley Duncan more often in left field. They also have options in the minors, namely Jordan Brown, Nick Weglarz and Michael Brantley.
