RECKER TO THE CUBS

The Chicago Cubs acquired catcher Anthony Recker from the Oakland Athletics for catcher Blake Lalli.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Recker will have a chance to become Welington Castillo's backup with the Cubs. For now, he has been sent to Triple-A Iowa but don't be surprised if he resurfaces in the big leagues before the end of 2012. His upside is somewhat limited, however.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Lalli had been taken off the Cubs' 40-man roster earlier this season, following a brief big-league stint. Like Recker, he has limited upside for Major League Baseball. However, the A's have had a lot of success with this type of reclamation project.

Fantasy impact
Neither Recker nor Lalli offers much fantasy value at this time. That said, both could emerge as No. 2 catchers for their new organizations in 2013.
