RED SOX ADD DEPTH C QUIROZ

The Boston Red Sox acquired catcher Guillermo Quiroz from the Seattle Mariners for cash.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox add a little catching depth here with the acquisition of Quiroz, a good catch-and-throw player with solid receiving skills. He profiles as a No. 3 catcher. Since the BoSox are using both {R Jarrod Saltalamacchia} and {P Ryan Lavarnway} as the DH lately, don't be surprised if the club brings Quiroz up to the big leagues at some point in September. That said, he's not a long-term solution.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners felt comfortable in their catching situation now to move veteran journeyman Quiroz for some cash considerations. After all, {P Jesus Montero} is starting to come on (and catching more and more). Also, {P John Jaso} has been a great find for Seattle, while veteran {P Miguel Olivo} is also in the mix. Furthermore, the team's 2012 first-round draft pick--Mike Zunino--is another big piece for the future.

Fantasy impact
There won't be any fantasy impact felt by this transaction. Both teams will continue to have quality offensive catching from the likes of Saltalamacchia, Lavarnway, Montero and Jaso...not to mention Zunino (eventually). Quiroz won't be a factor.
