O'S GET VALENCIA FROM BOSTON

The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Danny Valencia from the Boston Red Sox for cash.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles will likely keep promising youngster {P Manny Machado} at the hot corner for the foreseeable future, so Valencia is merely backup material at this point. After losing his starting gig in Minnesota, Valencia saw spot duty in Beantown in 2012. He has some pop but also plenty of holes in his swing.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox will probably go forward with young {P Will Middlebrooks} at third base, so they didn't need Valencia around much longer. Therefore, they decided to make a cash deal with division-rival Baltimore at this time. This deal likely won't come back to haunt the BoSox anytime soon.

Fantasy impact
If something happens to Machado, Valencia might become a decent fantasy option if he gets hot with the bat. That said, his impact hasn't changed much moving from Boston to Baltimore (he's still a backup at this time).
