BUCS ACQUIRE STEWART FROM BOSTON
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Zach Stewart from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Stewart still has some big-league upside, but time is starting to run out on him. He's been hit hard in Major League Baseball, so far, but perhaps a switch to the National League is just what the doctor ordered. He can both start and relieve, which should enhance his chances of making the Pirates out of spring training.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox acquired Stewart in the {P Kevin Youkilis} deal during the 2012 campaign, so getting rid of him this quickly can be viewed as acknowledgement that they didn't get enough of a return for their former all-star corner infielder. They'll likely land another marginal prospect in return for Stewart here.
Fantasy impact
If he can put things together, Stewart may be a true sleeper in fantasy circles in 2013. However, he'll likely start out in long or middle relief with the Bucs (assuming he makes the team out of spring training), so patience is required here.
