ROCKIES SWAP GUTHRIE FOR SANCHEZ

The Colorado Rockies acquired pitcher Jonathan Sanchez from the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Jeremy Guthrie.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies are banking on the fact Sanchez has pitched reasonably well in the National League (and, more specifically, at Coors Field), since they're surrendering a pitcher (Guthrie) who struggled mightily at home this season. Sanchez is the more talented pitcher of the two, though he also comes with less consistency and polish. Still, Sanchez is a good gamble at this point for Colorado.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals recently designated Sanchez for assignment, so a move was imminent. In Guthrie, they receive a decent starter who has success in Baltimore--prior to his Rockies meltdown. Look for Guthrie to take Sanchez' spot in the rotation for the rest of the season. Depending on how he does, he could be in line for a rotation spot next year, too. First, he must get back on track.
