RED SOX ADD DEPTH WITH CARP

The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp from the Seattle Mariners for cash.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
In Carp, the Red Sox land essentially an insurance policy at first base for newcomer {P Mike Napoli}, who is dealing with a hip issue. Carp is a left-handed complement who should be a nice fit coming off the Boston bench.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Carp had become redundant in Seattle following the acquisitions of {P Kendrys Morales}, {P Raul Ibanez} and {P Michael Morse}, so at least Seattle got an asset or cash back in this transaction. At first, the M's are sticking with {P Justin Smoak}.

Fantasy impact
Carp has some super sleeper appeal on the Red Sox, but he's mainly a good fantasy fit for Mike Napoli owners this season. His versatility also helps, but at the end of the day Carp will come off the bench.
