WHITE SOX ACQUIRE GILLASPIE

The Chicago White Sox acquired infielder Conor Gillaspie from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Jeff Soptic.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The Pale Hose land a little infield depth with Gillaspie, who has been knocking on the big-league door for quite some time now. He bats left-handed, so he may get a leg up on a bench job in Chicago this season. He's a natural third baseman, and the White Sox aren't set in stone at that position, so he may wind up a bargain here.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
Soptic is a lanky right-handed reliever with a great fastball. He's also extremely raw but the World Series champions can afford to be patient with him. He will probably start his Giants career in A ball in 2013. Since Gillaspie didn't appear to be in San Francisco's plans, they received a very nice return for him here.

Fantasy impact
Gillaspie should get a better opportunity with the White Sox, who could use more help at the hot corner. His fantasy value isn't very high, but it is improving now. As for Soptic, his long-range keeper value gets a spike now that he's moving to a team (Giants) that has had tremendous success developing pitchers (both starters and relievers).
