BUCS ADD SOLID LEFTY RODRIGUEZ
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Wandy Rodriguez from the Houston Astros for outfielder Robbie Grossman and pitchers Rudy Owens and Colton Cain.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are definitely in contention this season, but they needed to add more pieces. Rodriguez is a nice addition to a rotation that also boasts righties A.J. Burnett and James McDonald, plus lefty Erik Bedard. Rodriguez will definitely help Pittsburgh, a team he is very familiar with since he's spent a lot of time in the AL Central with the Astros.
What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros continue to sell off assets this year with the intention to complete rebuild. The best of the three prospects acquired from the Pirates here may be outfielder Grossman, who is a switch-hitter with very good plate discipline and patience. Owens has a good frame and has already reached Triple-A, while Cain is also big and has upside.
