VOGT TO OAKLAND

The Oakland Athletics acquired catcher Stephen Vogt from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The A's like offensive catchers and have done well with several others in the past. Vogt also walks a lot, which is usually a staple within the Oakland organization. For now, he'll serve as the team's third-string catcher and remain down on the farm until he's needed in Oakland.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays prefer their catchers to be strong game-callers and leaders behind the dish. Vogt doesn't really fit that description, as he's more of an offensive catcher. Therefore, the Rays moved him for either a player or cash down the line. They have {P Chris Gimenez} to serve a similar role.

Fantasy impact
Vogt could have some super-sleeper appeal if he gets recalled to Oakland at some point this season. For now, however, he remains a major fantasy long shot. Still, he is better off with the A's organization than with the Rays.
