YANKEES ADD INFIELDER NELSON

The New York Yankees acquired infielder Chris Nelson from the Colorado Rockies for cash or a player to be named later (Yoely Bello - September 11 2013).

What does it give the New York Yankees
This is a solid pickup for the Yankees, who are currently without third basemen {P Alex Rodriguez} and {P Kevin Youkilis}. While Rodriguez may not play until late-summer, Youkilis is expected back soon. Still, Youkilis often moves to first base against left-handers, which means Nelson may see regular platoon duty at third base for a while with the Bronx Bombers. He's better as a part-time player, anyway.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies designated Nelson for assignment recently, in large part to promote top third base prospect {P Nolan Arenado}. Therefore, Nelson was no longer in the team plans. As a result, they took the best offer they could get for his services and moved on. Nelson didn't do much in the role of starting third baseman, so this was probably the best-case scenario for all parties involved.

Fantasy impact
Nelson goes from everyday 3B to backup infielder with this move, so his fantasy value has taken a hit here. That said, he may have a little super-sleeper value if he starts getting decent playing time (or if the Youkilis back issue festers).
