YANKEES ADD DEPTH IF LILLIBRIDGE

The New York Yankees acquired infielder Brent Lillibridge from the Chicago Cubs for cash.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees have been ravaged by injuries this season, so they've used a myriad of backups all over the field. Lillibridge has experience all over the infield, and could even play the outfield if need be. Therefore, there's a chance he'll be brought up to the Bronx at some point in 2013. In particular, he's insurance in case SS {P Derek Jeter} and/or 3B {P Alex Rodriguez} have setbacks in their respective rehabs.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs purchased Lillibridge's contract at the end of spring training and put him in the lineup in April (he played both second and third base), but he didn't hit much and was designated for assignment (and later outrighted to Triple-A Iowa). Therefore, they didn't really need the 29-year-old journeyman's services any longer. So they did well here to get back a future asset or cash in the deal.

Fantasy impact
Lillibridge won't have much fantasy value with the Yankees, either. He's strictly an insurance policy for all of the Yankees' injury issues.
