'STROS MOVE JOHNSON TO D-BACKS

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Houston Astros for outfielders Bobby Borchering and Marc Krauss.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
When {P Ryan Roberts} didn't turn out to be the answer for the D-backs at the hot corner this season, he was moved to Tampa Bay. While utilityman {P Willie Bloomquist} has been good filling in, the departure of Roberts left Arizona without an established true third baseman. Johnson may be able to fill that void until youngsters {P Ryan Wheeler} and {B Matt Davidson} are ready to be regulars. It's unclear if Johnson will start over Bloomquist (or if some sort of platoon will emerge) but at the very least Johnson brings solid depth (it not star power).

What does it give the Houston Astros
No team has been as busy as Houston heading up to the trade deadline, and it's clear they're interested in cutting salary and adding prospects. Borchering and Krauss are both very good prospects who have already proven themselves in the lower minors. Borchering has a lot of power (and may profile as a corner infielder or outfielder at this point), while Krauss is much more polished offensively (and may be ready sooner). Both were highly-drafted and both are still fairly young, so this may be a steal for Houston down the line.
