BUCS ADD INFIELDER RUSS CANZLER

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Russ Canzler from the Baltimore Orioles for pitcher Tim Alderson.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are taking a flyer on Canzler here, since he has shown a pretty decent bat at the big-league level in the past. He's also quite versatile with the glove, though his best chance to stick in the bigs is likely at third base. He may make {P Brandon Inge} expendable if the Bucs decide to call him up.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Once upon a time, Alderson was considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Drafted in the first round in 2007 by the Giants, the gangly right-hander was considered on par with fellow Giants first rounder {P Madison Bumgarner}. Since then, he has fallen off the rails. Still, he's only 24 years old.

Fantasy impact
Canzler remains an intriguing player without a position, but he was added for depth and eventually the Pirates' bench. Therefore, he isn't likely to have much fantasy value for the rest of 2013. Alderson might be able to provide some depth to the Orioles but he's not on the fantasy radar at present time.
