INDIANS GET VETERAN LEFTY RZEPCZYNSKI
The Cleveland Indians acquired pitcher Marc Rzepczynski from the St. Louis Cardinals for infielder Juan Herrera.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians have a deep bullpen but don't have a lot of quality from the left side. {P Rich Hill} is their only bullpen lefty at present time, so the club hopes veteran Rzepczynski--who was quite good for St. Louis prior to this season--can find his game in time to become a factor down the stretch. The 27-year-old southpaw has some gas left in the tank but needs to show greater determination.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
In Herrera, the Cardinals get a long-range infield prospect with fairly good upside. The Cardinals don't have a lot of current issues in their lineup but they aren't really settled on a long-term solution at either third base or shortstop. They do have prospect {P Kolten Wong} at second base but he has been the subject of trade rumors. Herrera currently plays second base. Can this lead to another deal?
Fantasy impact
Rzepczynski doesn't have much fantasy value, since he's a longshot for holds down the stretch. Herrera has some keeper-league appeal but he's only 20 and several years away from contending for a roster spot in St. Louis.
