NATS BOLSTER OUTFIELD DEPTH WITH DEJESUS

The Washington Nationals acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Chicago Cubs for cash.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
Usual Nationals fourth outfielder {P=6639 Roger Bernadina} is having a forgettable 2013 campaign so it's not surprising the team replaces him here with DeJesus. Bernadina has been released on the heels of this transaction, and DeJesus should step in right away and boost Washington's outfield depth. While he gets paid like a near-star, DeJesus has settled in as a solid (if a bit below-average) veteran producer with enough arm and range to play all three outfield spots while providing dependable tools at the dish.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Moving veteran DeJesus and his pricey contract is a no-brainer here for the young and rebuilding Cubs. While they could have simply let DeJesus become a free agent after this season, they instead get something for him. In a related move Chicago activated outfielder {P Brian Bogusevic} to take DeJesus' spot in the outfield rotation.

Fantasy impact
Bogusevic and {P Junior Lake} can handle center field for the Cubs the rest of the way (although Lake has much more fantasy appeal than Bogusevic). DeJesus didn't have much fantasy value this season when he was starting most games for Chicago, and that value shrinks even more now that he seems destined for a fourth outfielder role with Washington.
