RANGERS ADD CATCHER SOTO

The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Geovany Soto from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Jake Brigham and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
In Soto, the Rangers add a catcher with upside and plenty of question marks. He replaces Yorvit Torrealba, who was designated for assignment to make room for Soto. While Mike Napoli remains the starting catcher in Texas, Soto gives them more options. The 29-year-old Soto is having a terrible season but may find new life in the American League (and in Rangers Ballpark).

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Brigham is 24 and had been pitching in Double-A ball for the Rangers. He has the size and arm to succeed in the big leagues as a starter, but needs to find a way to keep the ball in the park more regularly. He should be more successful in the National League (when he gets to the bigs). The Cubs will now look to Welington Castillo and Steve Clevenger as their backstops.
