O'S GET MORSE FROM THE M'S FOR AVERY
The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Michael Morse from the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Xavier Avery.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
In Morse, the Orioles land a big right-handed power hitter who should get a fair amount of at-bats (especially against left-handed pitchers) down the stretch. He can play both corner outfield positons, as well as first base, so Morse's presence may allow Baltimore to use some of their regulars at DH to give them a bit of rest in September (while keeping their bats in the lineup).
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Avery is a speedy, athletic outfielder who has yet to master the art of getting on base. He should be a table-setter because of the skill-set but isn't likely to figure it all out with the Mariners. He could get a shot right away at regular playing time in September, but appears better suited to coming off the bench at the big-league level. Did the M's get enough in return for Morse?
Fantasy impact
Morse may be a pretty good source for power down the stretch, since he moves from a very good pitchers' park (Safeco Field in Seattle) to one of the best home-run parks in baseball (Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore). Avery may get a bit of a fantasy spike too if he sees regular at-bats with Seattle down the stretch, but his overall fantasy value is minimal.
