RED SOX LAND CASTELLANOS

The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Alex Castellanos from the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker and cash.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Castellanos is a versatile 27-year-old who could find his way to a spot on the Boston bench in 2014. He has bounced around a bit but has performed quite well in the minor leagues. Now it's time to see what he can do in the bigs.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
In Hazelbaker, the Dodgers get a more powerful hitter than Castellanos, but also someone with even more base-stealing acumen. A left-handed batter, Hazelbaker should spend most of 2014 in Triple-A ball but he may see time in LA.

Fantasy impact
Both Castellanos and Hazelbaker project to be bench or role players at the big-league level, if they are to make it. Therefore, there isn't much fantasy value here. If anything, Castellanos is a better bet to stick in Major League Baseball, while Hazelbaker has a bit more fantasy upside if he makes it.
