PADS ADD DICKERSON FOR MIKOLAS, DECKER

The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Alex Dickerson from the Pittburgh Pirates for pitcher Miles Mikolas and outfielder Jaff Decker.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres need more pop in their lineup, so the hope is Dickerson will eventually help in that area. He's strictly a left-fielder when playing the outfield, though Pittsburgh tried him at first base. He's expected to return to the outfield with the Padres. Thanks to big-time power and run-producing potential, Dickerson should have a future in San Diego. He quickly becomes {P Carlos Quentin}'s heir apparent in left field.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Mikolas should provide the Pirates with some depth out of the bullpen, as he totals 27 National League appearances so far in his career. A closer in the minor leagues, the 25-year-old should be an asset for Pittsburgh. As for Decker, he has failed to live up to expectations but could make the Bucs as a fourth outfielder in 2014. This deal added quantity for Pittsburgh but it's a curious move to deal Dickerson--since they're looking for a left-handed batter to play first base.

Fantasy impact
Dickerson should be squarely on the fantasy radar in most keeper leagues, and he has an outside shot at reaching the bigs in 2014. Mikolas and Decker are more of the dark-horse variety in terms of long-range prospects.
