ASTROS GET BASS FROM SAN DIEGO

The Houston Astros acquired pitcher Anthony Bass and cash from the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later.

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros need all the help they can get on the pitching staff, so landing Bass is a good idea here. He's still only 26 and has shown brief glimpses of solid potential in the bigs. He was used by San Diego out of the bullpen last season, but was a starter at Triple-A Tucson. He gives Houston options.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres decided to move on from Bass, perhaps because he never really found his big-league niche with them. The Pads will also send Houston another player or cash and will receive likewise in this deal. Don't look for much else to be exchanged here, as the players to be named later won't be prospects.

Fantasy impact
If Bass can secure a place in Houston's rotation in 2014, his fantasy value would increase. It's a possibility, but not a certainty.
