KC/BAL: VALENCIA TRADED FOR LOUGH
The Kansas City Royals acquired infielder Danny Valencia from the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder David Lough.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
This was a swap of backup players, as Valencia is likely to serve as Kansas City's backup third baseman to {P Mike Moustakas}. The right-hand-hitting Valencia may take away some of Moustakas's at-bats against left-handed pitching, as well as backup first baseman {P Eric Hosmer} and DH {P Billy Butler}.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The left-hand-hitting Lough can play all three outfield positions, so he could serve a valuable role off the Orioles' bench. He may also be in the competition for at-bats in left field, along with {P Nolan Reimold}, {P Henry Urrutia} and {P Francisco Peguero}. It will be healthy competition during spring training.
Fantasy impact
Valencia and Lough are considered fantasy dark horses, both before and after this trade. Valencia has more power, so he has a bit more fantasy value than Lough at this point in their careers.
