BOSOX GET IF HERRERA FROM COLORADO
The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Jonathan Herrera from the Colorado Rockies for pitchers Franklin Morales and Chris Martin.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The addition of Herrera here can be viewed as a sign Boston is prepared to move on from veteran shortstop {P Stephen Drew}, as Herrera can be a solid backup infielder. This also may mean the Red Sox are going to give top prospect {P Xander Bogaerts} the everyday shortstop job in 2014, with Herrera as his main reserve.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Morales used to be a top prospect in the Rockies system, but he's now more of a depth arm pitching out of the bullpen. Look for him to be used as a long man/spot starter in 2014. As for Martin, he's another reliever with a little upside and a very lanky frame who should serve as more organizational depth.
Fantasy impact
The big fantasy winners here are Red Sox infielders Bogaerts and {P Will Middlebrooks}, since they would be most affected by the re-signing of Drew (which now seems less likely with Herrera on board). However, none of Herrera, Morales or Martin hold much fantasy value at this point.
