ASTROS GET GUZMAN FOR JACKSON

The Houston Astros acquired first baseman/outfielder Jesus Guzman from the San Diego Padres for infielder Ryan Jackson.

What does it give the Houston Astros
In Guzman, the Astros acquire a decent right-handed bat off the bench and a versatile player afield. He can play first base and either corner outfield position, so he may end up receiving a fair amount of at-bats with his new team. He's more insurance in case top first-base prospect {P Jonathan Singleton} isn't ready for the bigs.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
Jackson should provide some middle-infield depth for the Padres, who will likely enter spring training with shortstop {P Everth Cabrera} and second baseman {P Jedd Gyorko} as the starters. Jackson was formerly with the Cardinals, but Houston picked him up via waivers in the off-season. He has more upside than Guzman.

Fantasy impact
Neither Guzman nor Jackson is expected to make a fantasy impact in 2014, but both can be considered dark horses at this point. Jackson is only 25, so he has a bit more fantasy potential, but neither is a good bet at this point.
